What is wrong with people?

This happened all the time outside of the hospital at Ohio State, where my dad was a patient for several weeks. You know what really got my goat though? The PATIENTS who wheeled themselves out the door, IVs attached and all, to go smoke a cigarette.

I figure, if they want to be THAT stupid, then they deserve whatever illnesses they get as a result, but why on earth do they think it's OK force everyone else coming and going from the hospital to walk through a cloud of toxic smoke? Self-centered assholes! Some people just need a good punching every now and again, you know?

I would totally be wheeling my stupid ass outside to smoke if I was in the hospital and was able to get outside.
But I would move away from the doors, because while I may be stupid, I am very considerate. ;-)

Worse again. When I was visiting my sister in the maternity hospital, I passed a lady with a nine month bump puffing like a steam train. I just threw my eyes to heaven.

Exactly. When my friend Maureen died of cancer, people were outside the funeral home smoking cigarettes. So so stupid.

absolutely disgusting! and I say that as a social smoker...

What I really don't get is the nurses I work with in ICU. Just last week we had a patient with end-stage lung disease from smoking (she couldn't even shower anymore she was so short of breath) who had come in after a near fatal asthma attack in which her heart had actually stopped (don't get me started on asthma and smoking) and we all knew she was never going to leave ICU except in a box ("making the horizontal phone call from the brass handled phone booth" as we say in the business). We all knew how she had got this bad; sure she had asthma, but it was the ciggies that were the cause of the great majority of her lung damage.

And her nurse went out every three hours for a cigarette.

Smoking is bad for you -DUH!

I don't have a problem with cancer patients who smoke. Hey, the people are probably dying, leave them their little luxuries.

But to the people who smoke at the funerals of someone who died of smoking related illness - there is a special place in hell for you.

Eek, guys! I didn't know it was offensive to smoke in front of a hostpital. I can understand the insensitivity of smoking in front of a cncer hospital, but as long as I'm outside and away from the doors and other people I didn't think it was a problem. I do know it's a disgusting habit. And I am ALWAYS a considerate smoker, but never gave much thought to smoking outside of a hosptial.
