Job Advice

When I am interviewing you for a job WATCHING MY INFANT CHILD- do not tell me that you only have personal references because you didn't want to "bother" the people you used to work for.
I 'm not going to hire you based on the fact that your aunt Selma says that you are a really nice girl.

Also, even if you are interviewing for a janitor position, sneakers are NOT appropriate interview attire.

If blogging starts to become a chore, but you still love it, I would suggest a video blog. Those are always funny or interesting. In the end it is up to you, but it might be a good idea to try.

HA! As a nanny I have to say that when interviewing it's hard to skirt the line between dressing professionally and being ready to interact with the kid(s). That being said, I would NEVER show up in sneakers. Good luck in your search!

Um, I know I will most likely be in the minority here, but I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing tennis shoes to an interview to be a baby-sitter in someone's home. A daycare center would be different, but I think it would be ok in someone's home as long as the rest of the clothes were "nice casual."

I found your blog a few months ago, and I don't know if I've ever commented, but I enjoy reading and I really hope you have the time to continue blogging.

Agree-Sneakers...Okay for applying for a position to watch someone's child.
Not having references...not okay for applying for a position to watch someone's child.

As a former nanny, i'm split on the sneakers...
Want to look professional, yet, what if the mom wanted to go to the playground and see how you interact with the child or something?
There's all kinds of "sneakers" too, nice clean groovy ones, etc..

Re: your last Twitter - she got what?? Willa got the Ford agency???

And I LOVE the idea of a video blog - are you set up to post one?! A living breathing crawling talking Willa - Fab! ;)

Oh i do not envy you. At all. Good luck.

Yeah, I would give the sitter some slack on the sneakers, but not having references is a HUGE red flag - yikes!!! Go with your gut and you'll be ok.

I dunno about wearing joggers to an interview...

When I interviewed for a swim instructor position at a big swim school in Sydney, I wore a nice dress and heels... Even though I'd only ever be wearing cossies and a rash-shirt.

And I had numerous professional references.

Hope your search gets more pain-free!

It depends on how cute the sneakers are. ;) For a nanny job I mean.

No actual job references - bad news.

Good luck with your search. You'll find the right person. Trust that gut.
