Poll

I'm trying to do some research. It would be really helpful if you answer the following questions:

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
4) Are they being breastfed?
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

Feel free to also tell us any tips, or stories about your child's sleep habits.

Comments

) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes, they are 1 and 2 years old.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? They go to bed at 7:30, up at 7:30
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? They both are in their own rooms in cribs.
4) Are they being breastfed?
The 1 year old is.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? I breastfeed her if she gets up on occasion.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? We use pampers or luvs and generic pull ups for the toddler
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
Yup, we use the overnights because my children pee like elephants in their sleep.

My girls are good sleepers by sheer force of my will. The elder is a naturally good sleeper and the younger took a lot of work. And patience. And work.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
Hahahahahahahahaha. AHem. Sorry. He actually kind of does, but he comes into bed to cuddle with his dad several times a night. I am currently banished from the bedroom because if I am there he wants to nurse ALL NIGHT. I couldn't take it anymore. (He is nearly two.)

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
Bedtime is around 8:00, and he is usually up by 7:00.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
Yes. No. He has a bed that converts from a crib to a toddler bed. It's assembled with the side off and set up as a sidecar to our bed. We are thinking of moving it a few feet away, but haven't decided yet.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
No. Night weaning took us MONTHS but it has mostly "taken."

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Cotton prefolds.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
BumGenius pocket diapers stuffed with TWO inserts. Before we found these Seventh Generation disposables were the only thing that worked at night.

I have been very strict about bedtime with my kids since they were born. They always slept in their own crib/bed, and we have done the same bedtime routine with very few adjustments since they were born. They each (3 of them) have their special blankie-pillow type things that they love to sleep with. They usually fall asleep within 5 mins of putting them in their beds. We gradually reduce the amount of milk they drink before bed as they grow older. This cuts back on diaperor pull-up wetness, & they sleep longer the drier they are. Overnight diapers DO help them sleep more comfortably. Also: cutting back on the afternoon nap helps them sleep longer at night.
Hope this helps!

I'll answer these based on when Baby D was a baby (he's 3 now), since he was my difficult one...

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Not until he was 11 months old
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Bedtime was between 7:30 & 8:00...besides waking up every 2 hours or so throughout the night, he woke up between 6 & 7
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? He slept in a crib in his own room
4) Are they being breastfed? He was exclusively breastfed
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? Yes, in fact I think that was one of my problems, but I didn't know how to get around it, but everytime he woke up...he ate and took forever to do it...I could go on about this forever, but if you want more feedback on this particular one, just let me know :)
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers...tried switching several times, but nothing absorbed and kept him dry nearly as well
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? We tried the Huggies Overnights, but they didn't hold up as well

He was hard, and it probably would have been easier on us if we would have co-slept, but that just wasn't for us. I spent many nights sleeping on the nursery floor because of hubby's work schedule and his need for sleep...it wasn't fun and I was oh-so-happy when it came time for us to let him cry it out and it worked...but it was a long 11 months! Email me if you want or need anymore info :)

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

Baby boy, nine months, does not sleep through the night.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

He usually falls asleep at around 8 pm and wakes up every few hours. He wakes at 5:30 am and will sometimes sleep until 7:30, but not reliably.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He falls asleep in our bed and is then transferred to a crib in his own room. Depending on how many times he wakes up, he ends up in our bed at some point during the night.

4) Are they being breastfed?

He is fed with an NG tube and a continuous overnight feed.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

Since he is being fed all through the night, he is not waking up because he is hungry. He usually needs to be held, either in a chair or in bed, in order to fall back asleep.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Seventh generation disposables.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

Nope.

When he is sleeping especially poorly, we give him a little bit of benadryl for a few nights in a row to try to "re-set" him, this is on the advice of our doctors. However, this is really easy to do because we can just put it through the tube.

Of course, a few weeks ago I had surgery and the entire time I was recovering he slept through the night. The day I was given the okay to beging lifting him again? He started waking every few hours. He was never a good sleeper and the docs assured us that with the NG tube he would sleep better (he was not eating/drinking on his own prior to that and was constantly hungry though he would not eat), but alas, it has not worked. He has, thank G-d, started gaining weight again.

Here ya go :) I hope it helps you with whatever you're looking for! (Maggie is almost a year old, if that helps)

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
For the most part, yes. Lately she'll wake up for a few minutes crying, but usually a pacifier and a gentle 'push' back towards her mattress, and she's back out. She does go through phases where she'll be up longer though (teething, when she's sick, etc) but I guess those shouldn't really count.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
We usually start the bedtime routine by 8 at the latest, earlier if it's a bath night (every other day) Jammies, a bottle, then a snuggle and maybe a book. Then we put her in her crib with her musical toy turned on, and usually she'll drift off on her own (but trust me, it was NOT easy teaching her that! It took about a month of 'tough love' and letting her cry for a bit. It was Not Fun but definitely worth it now) Sometimes she's asleep by 8:30, sometimes closer to 9. She usually wakes between 7 and 8, or if I've been a good girl, until 8:30 or 9!

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
She's been in her crib in her room since she was about 8 weeks old. Before that, she was in the bassinet next to our bed (wow does that seem like forever ago...)

4) Are they being breastfed?
No, Maggie was only breastfed for about 7 weeks.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
I will always try to get her back to sleep without it. But sometimes, it just won't work. I've given up on fighting it too much though, so if she's not calming down within a few minutes, I'll go make 2oz of formula (or sometimes I make one before bed and have it ready in the fridge) and I'll stand at the crib and hold it for her to eat. After less than an ounce, she'll usually push it away and pop her pacifier back in, and she's on her way back to sleep. So it works more just to calm her down than to fill her up (she's not actually hungry!)

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Pampers Baby Dry

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
Nope- the Pampers Baby Dry can hold A LOT of pee! Her diapers feel like they weigh about 5 pounds in the morning! They last Maggie well over 12 hours at night, and she's only leaked a little bit a few times. (overnight pee, that is- daytime poop is another story completely! hehe)

1)Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Nope, he's 18 months old and wakes up once...we've made some serious headway in the past week though - no more liquids, no more sleeping with Mom and Dad - he's doing much better all of a sudden.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Bed around 7, and up at 7.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? In a crib, with a crib tent over top - I am the proud monther of a CLIMBING MONKEY!
4) Are they being breastfed? Sadly, no - he decided he had enough at 10 months, and started laughing at my breasts. Then I decided I had enough too! (But I regret giving up so easily now)
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? We just stopped giving the bottle at night, we found it was being used as a crutch to help him get back to sleep. We switched to water, and then got rid of liquids all together - he sleeps WAY better now.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? We did cloth for a long time, but I found they got TOO wet at night. Did cloth inside disposables too, because I also have an elephant pee-er. We now use one size up from day time diapers - a bit bigger holds a bit more liquid. Although now that we've stopped night time liquids, it's not such an issue.

My son has NEVER been a good sleeper. We've tried everything. He finally seems to be figuring it out though...it's been a long 18 months!

Good Luck!

I don't have any kids, but I do have two nieces and a nephew, so maybe this might help.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

My nephew was sleeping through the night at two months old. My mum got a panicked phone call one morning, asking if they should wake him! From then on, he slept right through the night. My nieces were different - the older one was sleeping through the night at about 8 months old. Baby Smurf is sleeping through the night now - she's four months old and will sleep from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. with no worries.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
My nephew used to sleep from about 7 p.m to 6 or 7 a.m. My nieces are the same, generally.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
All the midgets sleep in their own bedrooms, in their cots. They weren't in a room with mum and dad at night at any stage. My nephew and niece have moved onto big people beds now, and they think it's pretty cool :-)

4) Are they being breastfed?
No.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
I can't really answer this for you :-)

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Huggies.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
Nope.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
Yep, Oliver has been sleeping through the night since he was 10 weeks old. He gets his love of sleep from me!

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
Bedtime was around 7 when he was younger, but since he was about 14-15 months old, it's 8:00. He usually wakes up between 7:00-7:30, although I think that has something to do with hearing his Daddy getting ready for work. On weekends he sometimes sleeps as late as 8:00.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
He sleeps in his crib in his own room. He slept in a bassinette in our room for a grand total of 10 days - then would not sleep unless he was in his own room. (Made me really sad, actually. At least while he was still so little.)

4) Are they being breastfed?
Noooo. (He's 20 months old.)

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
During the time I was breastfeeding him as a newborn, yes, and after that I could give him a bottle until he started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks. Since then, I can count on both hands how many times I've had to get out of bed in the night - and just for holding/comforting.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
We tried Pampers, Luvs, Huggies, and several others... overall, Huggies work best for us.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
We've been using overnight diapers since he was about 14-15 months old... these days, we can't find his size (he's 30 lb) in the regular overnights, so we're now using Huggies Pull-Ups Overnight in size small, and they work perfectly. Which is a good thing, because I was getting sick of washing his pj's and sheets constantly!

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

Yes (He's 21 months)

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

Goes down about 7:30, and wakes up around 7:30 or 8.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He sleeps in a crib in his own room.

4) Are they being breastfed?

Not anymore.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

Nope. (Though I can't remember when we stopped doing that. At this point, on those rare occasions that he does wake up, we'll rub his back in the crib to get him to go back down. If he's totally not having it, we'll put him in our bed and let him sleep there. This only happens like once or twice a month.)

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Pampers Baby Dry

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

Just bought my first package (also Pampers), but I haven't yet opened it.

In general, we're pretty vigilant about sticking to the bedtime routine and time, and although Alex is the WORST NAPPER IN THE HISTORY OF ALL BABIES, EVER, he is excellent about going right down at 7:30. I'm sure it's due to following the same routine each night. Oh, also, we keep a few of his favorite books in the crib. It's great, because he'll "read" them if he's not yet ready to go to sleep, or we'll hear him reading them in the morning (so he doesn't immediately call for us the second he wakes up).

Good luck! :)

Hi Torrie -- now that I'm an old pro at this whole baby thing, I'd be happy to take your poll!
Owen is 5 months (and a bit).

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

He sleeps for anywhere from 8-10 hours at night. If he goes down at 8pm, he might be up at 5am or 6am, but I'm not ready to be up yet. I'll change him, feed him and then if he's still sleepy, he'll go back to his room. If he's not sleepy, I'll bring him to bed with us, where he'll fall asleep much, much quicker. He'll stay asleep for another 2-3 hours.
He slept 6 hours straight for the first time at about 3 months. That's considered a "night" for some people, but if he goes to bed at 9, that means I'll be up at 3am! He started doing 8-9 hours about a month ago. I'd almost rather him do two 5-hour chunks, 'cause I'm full to bursting after 7 hours... (see #4)

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
Down between 8-10pm (depending on daily schedule -- we're still on kind of a 3-hour feeding schedule)
See previous answer.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He slept in a bassinet by our bed for about 12 weeks, with naps in his crib in his own room. After 12 weeks, he was in his crib for naps and at night (except for early mornings, if we wanted a few more hours and we pulled him in with us).

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes.
We actually just tried rice cereal this evening for the first time. I am comfortable with our decision about doing it "this early" after I read your post and the comments from when you were feeding Willa solids before the "magic" 6-month mark. He was ready, we were ready, and he was perfect!

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
If it's been longer than 3 hours since he ate last and he does wake up, yes, I'll feed him (he won't eat much, though). When we first put him down for the night, he'll usually wake up a lot for about 45 minutes ... we just have to go in, rub his tummy or sing to him to get him to go back to sleep.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
PAMPERS.
We tried Huggies at first, but he was always leaking out of them. We even wrote a letter to the company (like good, polite Canadians), telling them so and we got some coupons ... now, months later, we used the coupons and tried Huggies again, but he still leaks out every time. We are on size 3s for Pampers -- a full size up from where he fits -- because he poops out of those, too, but it's not as bad, and it's not every time.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
He actually never, ever leaks out at night. His diaper is a lot heavier in the morning, but no dirty clothes.

If he doesn't get enough sleep during the day, he'll be miserable in the evening and harder to get to sleep -- that was once piece of advice I never understood, but followed and now totally believe ... that the more a baby sleeps during the day, the better they'll sleep at night (cause they're not overtired). We read that a 5-month old needs 14-15 hours of sleep a day at minimum.

1. Yep, the baby has been sleeping through most of the time since 10 weeks. The 3 year old took a little longer to get it, but after a few months he became a champion sleeper. Now he only wakes up if his overnight diaper leaks.

2. They both go to bed by 7:30, the older one tends to get up at 6:30 and lately the baby has been sleeping till 8.

3. They have both always slept in their own rooms in cribs, except now of course the older one has a full size bed.

4. They were both breastfed for 6 months. The baby is now 7 months old.

5. No, on the rare occasion that he wakes up I usually just calm him and give him a pacifier.

6. Pampers Cruisers, I swear by them.

7. The older one still wears a nighttime pullup, but we just cut out his before bed milk and he's learning to wakeup when he has to pee, so I suspect the pullup will be ditched soon. Thank goodness he let us cut out the bedtime milk because we were changing pjs and sheets in the middle of the night a LOT.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
For the most part yes, but my four year old will soeties get up to go to the toilet or need a drink.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Bedtime is around 7:30, but can sometimes be a bit later. My 4yo can be a bit of a pain at bedtime and she will sometimes take a while to actually go to sleep. My two year old wakes up between 7 and 8, my four year old is usually 8 or later.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? Both are in their own room. The 2yo is in a crib, the 4yo is in a regular bed.
4) Are they being breastfed? no
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? no
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? 4yo is potty trained, 2yo uses a brand called "Nature Care". It's an organic disposable - she has very sensitive skin and these help a lot.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? no

8 month old boy

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
no

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
goes to bed around 8. feed until drowsy, then put in bed.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
Started in a pack & play in our room until about 3 months old, but ended up cosleeping most of the time. At 3 months, starts the night in a crib in his own room until he wakes up anytime between 2-4 am. after that, he's in our bed the rest of the night.

4) Are they being breastfed?
yes

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
when he wakes up around 2-4am, bring him to our bed and we both fall asleep breastfeeding. He then feeds at his own will the rest of the night (usually again around 6am). I'm a working mom and need to sleep, so this is what works for us.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
just graduated from pampers snugglers to the cruisers

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
no

Disclaimer: I'm a nanny, but I've been with these boys 55 hours a week from 2 months to present ( they just turned 1!) Thought I could add to your data collection =)

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes, since 4 months.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? At 4 months, from 11-6ish. Since about 6 months, from 8 to 7. Had trouble sleeping that long at first, decreasing daytime napping down to 2-3 hours per/day helped immediately.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
Their own cribs in their own room, next to parent's room.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Up until 2 weeks ago, yes. Mom stopped pumping at around 9 months and only nursed in the morning and at night before bed. Babies had formula during the day. Dropped morning feeding first. Making the switch to cow's milk in a cup right now. Not going over too well!

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
When they do wake up in the middle of the night it's usually because they are sick...in which case Mom and Dad bust out the baby swing. If they are not sick they let the babies fuss themselves back to sleep. Mom has found entering the room to comfort them usually just makes them even more angry/upset/worked up when she leaves again (especially when they were waking up to play and try out new crawling/walking skills) but they never usually cry for long at all.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
They use Pampers Cruisers. Every once in a great while they'll wake up damp but overall they work well.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
Nope.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
Yes. He is now 29 months.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? He is usually in bed by 8pm and is usually up at 7:30am
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? He has slept in his own room since day one and he is in a twin bed that is really low to the floor.
4) Are they being breastfed? He was for the first 2 months but not anymore.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? No. He sometimes needs a drink of water.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Since day one I've used Pampers Baby Dry. I tried all other brand names, but never liked any of them. Next baby, I'm thinking of cloth diapering.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? Yes and No. He is potty training so he sometimes has pull ups on..but at night we always put on a Pampers Baby Dry!

Honestly, I did the old wives tale of flipping the baby in the crib. I sh*t you not that he slept through the VERY NEXT night. It was amazing. We haven't had sleep problems since.

11 month old baby boy

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

For the most part he does now but I've only been able to say that for the last month.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

He goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 at night. He's up between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He's in a crib in his own room.

4) Are they being breastfed?

Yes.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

If my son does wake up in the middle of the night now it is only once and yes, I need to breastfeed him to get him to go back to sleep.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Motherease One-size cloth diapers during the day. Seventh Generation diaper at night.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

See above.

My son has always been very good at falling asleep but not so good at staying asleep. At 4 months old he was still waking every 2 hours at night. He gradually improved after that and thankfully now he sleeps through or is up just once in the night.

He has been on a very predictable schedule of 2 naps a day (one at 9am, one at 1pm) for some time now and never fights his naps and never has a problem going to sleep on his own. I lay him down in his crib, he rolls over onto his tummy and promptly falls asleep. This is true at naptime and bedtime. My feeling is that getting good naps at the right time seems to be a big part of that.

hey torrie, thought i would chime in to let you know what happens in a twin household. my boys are 11 months today. so...

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? yes and no, they both 'sleep' from 7 until 5 or 6...there are days when that does not happen and they have a rough night of waking with some extra needs. they also tend to cry out and have a few minutes of waking/crying and self soothing back to sleep, each about 1-2 times a night.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? they are both in bed by 7 715 most nights. we start their bedtime routine (bath, massage/dressing, bottle using a very slow flow nipple) around 630.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? they both sleep in separate cribs that abut in their own room.

4) Are they being breastfed? nope

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? 90% of the time no, i rarely give them anything from the hours of 7 until 4 a.m. if mason wakes at 4-430 and will not go back to sleep he gets water in a bottle and if it is really ugly he gets a few ounces of milk. owie is pretty good without food from 7 until 7. we just slowly phased out their 5 a.m. wake up/please go back to sleep bottle that was routine until about 10.5 months

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? now we use costco brand because they have a very established b&b routine. when they were still night feeding we used pammpers. great pee holding abilities.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? no, pampers worked great and then when they stopped night feeding they stopped peeing so much and we do not change them until morning.

here is the thing. i know for a fact that every child sleeps differently because i witness it daily. o will self soothe without a problem but have nights when he needs me to put him to sleep. mason will sometimes go out like a light, but wake and scream for an hour with nothing helping other than baby motrin and water after he gets kinda hyaterical. we do a modified cry it out approach because of it i can tell when they really need us. i also place my ipod strategically next to the bed with a CD from a man named dr. jeffery thompson called Delta Sleep System (get it, when she starts sleeping through you will have to learn how to too....it sucks to wake at 2 a.m. to total silence, you know?)

i am a firm believer in a solid bedtime routine that teaches your child what and when bed time is, then it just goes from there. and sometimes with less interference comes more sleep. we did not start CIO until 7 months and it had immediate positive results. it is far from perfect around here, both of my boys are ready to go at 630 a.m. most days, but i am okay with that as i am a morning person. they are also on a fairly strict two nap routine because, hey, i have twins and i need a few moments a day without a baby in arms. hope this gives you some ideas.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes, she started at around 14 months (almost 2 years old now)
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Goes to bed between 7-8, wakes up around 7.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? Crib in her own room. She started that at around 7 months (co-slept prior to that) for the beginning of the night, then would come into our bed halfway through the night. At 14 months, we had her in her own crib all night.
4) Are they being breastfed? No. She weaned at 15 months.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? When she was still nursing, I would HAVE to nurse her back to sleep in the middle of the night... it was the only thing that would get her back down.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Pampers Cruisers.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? No

Just a note that a) you should read www.askmoxie.org right now because they are having a sleep discussion and b) your daughter is at an age where the sleep deprivation is probably starting to make you crazy. It SUCKS and when you're in the middle of it, it is impossible to see how it will work out. I promise you will find a way to make it work and amazingly your child will sleep through the night at some point. Every child is different, though. What finally worked for us was sending Dad in with a bottle when she would wake up. Once she realized she wouldn't be getting nursing (which she LOVED) from mom (who she LOVED), I think she figured there was no point in waking up. It worked better for me than CIO, because I knew that if she was truly hungry, she would take the bottle, and that she was getting comfort, even if it wasn't what she wanted. Basically, I knew she was PISSED, but not scared, which I think is what she would have felt if we did hard-core CIO (I don't think ALL babies feel this way, but mine would have). It was an unpleasant week to 10 days, and my husband was more sleep deprived than he was used to, but in the end, everyone was happier. At two, we still rock her or pat her back for a few minutes before she goes to sleep. She only wakes up when she teething or has had a nightmare.

9 month old boy

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

No. Never has - am beginning to fear that he never will. Currently he is waking every few hours and it's killing me.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

Goes to bed most nights at around 7-7.30 and will get up around 8 or 9 if I'm really lucky or we've had a particularly bad night (he sleeps better if I bring him into bed with us but I'm trying not to use that as a crutch)

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He sleeps in a crib in our room - I wonder whether putting him in his own room might help things...

4) Are they being breastfed?

Yes exclusively (plus whatever solids I can persuade him to eat)

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

Yes. I have tried to comfort him back to sleep but this generally results in an hour of screaming versus him going straight back to sleep if I just feed him.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Huggies, Moltex Oko (eco disposable) or sometimes Treasures (I think these are the NZ version of pampers)

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

I usually put him in a cloth nappy over night as the disposables can't seem to take it all, but sometimes the soaking in his own pee aspect can make him a bit rashy and I have to use disposables (and change him in the middle of the night to avoid leakage) until it clears up.

I was feeling quite bullish at the beginning of the comments with all the other people who don't get to sleep much but then all those sleep-through-the-night-from-really-early people just before me have made me feel bad again. I know (read: HOPE LIKE HELL) it will happen eventually but at the moment I'm having to live with very little sleep and a husband that has to sleep on the couch every few nights when it gets really bad as the poor thing actually has to get up and function all day...

Would like to hear your answers too (given Willa is only a bit older than Finn).

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? - he quirms to be nursed but doesnt 'wake up' all the way for 12 hours in the night

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

11months old- in bed 9:30ish awake 9am ish

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? crib for naps in his own room - our bed at night

Is it in their own room?
4) Are they being breastfed?
yes
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
yes i breastfeed to keep him from waking all the way up

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
cloth (just switched) brand:happy heinys
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? - yes i put in an extra insert that is hemp to absorb and so we dont have to change it until morning (and so it wont leak)

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

Yes, since 2.5 months old. This started in 7 to 8 hr. stretches and progressed to 11 to 13 hr. stretches. He is now 15 months old. He actually always falls asleep in the crib, I never rock him (I'm a cold-hearted mama).

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

7pm to 7am (11 to 13 hrs.)

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He sleeps in a crib and has had his own room since 4/5 months...

4) Are they being breastfed?

No, I tried.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

When he was waking up in the middle of the night, he would get a bottle in a very dark room with no noise, not much cuddling, no playing so that he realized that that time was different than daytime.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Huggies.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

Since about 13 months we've been using either Pull-Ups Overnight or Huggies Overnight.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
Yes. She is now 9 months.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? To bed by 8PM, generally up by 7AM.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? She has slept in her own room since day one (she was too noisy and I couldn't get any sleep with her in our room) in a crib.
4) Are they being breastfed? Yes
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? I try not to and succeed 95% of the time. If I pick her up though she's eating if she has to scream for hours. I try not to pick her up...I just rub her back and tell her it will be OK.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? I'm a Pampers girl. Just switched from swaddlers to cruisers.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? Haven't yet.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? She is 14-1/2 months old and yes she sleeps thru the night (most nights), teething has been tricky and she has been sick but is now over that, so those factors contribute to not sleeping thru the night. she started sleeping thru the night at 7 weeks, when I realized hey I can walk in and give her the pacifier and she would fall asleep again. I also have swaddled her since the day she was born and I still do (most nights).
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? she goes to bed somewhere between 8 and 9, it depends on when she gets cranky. we are all in bed at 9 though.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? she sleeps in a crib still, not ready for a toddler bed yet and yes the crib is in her own room. she slept in a cradle in our room when she was born, but was fitful when she slept so I soon learned to just put her in her crib and she'd be much better off and so were we.
4) Are they being breastfed? yes she's breastfed, but I stopped pumping at about a year so she drinks whole milk during the day and has a blast of momma's milk at night before going to sleep and maybe sometimes in the morning if we are up for it.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? i will sometimes have to breastfeed her to get back to sleep, but I have had some luck recently with turning her over on her tummy and rubbing her back and singing a bunch of lullabies to her and she falls back to sleep by herself.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? PAMPERS!!! I've tried others and the result was not pretty. I will only ever use Pampers from now on...the cruisers! They have a dry weave in them that traps the poop so it doesn't leak out...all other diapers suck at trapping poop because they only have like that flat material and no weave.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? Nope, PAMPERS ALL THE WAY!!!

Feel free to also tell us any tips, or stories about your child's sleep habits. I found when my daughter gets a good meal in her (we don't give her baby food at all anymore, she eats big people food of many varieties and is not picky at all) she sleeps way better. When her belly is full, she is sustained throughout the night and does not wake up. I also have learned that I DO NOT go in to her room every time she cries in the middle of the night. She will cry, but more often than not she will just settle herself back down and go back to sleep on her own. If she fusses for more than 20 minutes I will go in and check on her and if she is really really screaming her head off and is not about to settle herself back down because she is too worked up I will go in. I also have a night lite in her room. I found that when she has the night lite on and it's not pitch dark, she is more comforted when she can see what's in the room in the middle of the night when she wakes up.

1) Nope.
2) Usually about 9:00 p.m. Do you mean what time does he wake up in the morning or the many times throughout the night?
3) He did sleep in a crib until he had croup in January and now he sleeps with us. All the time. Ugh.
4) He was until his first birthday.
5) Sometimes he needs a bottle to go back to sleep. He ALWAYS wanted the breast when he was still nursing.
6) He's a Huggies boy.
7) Nope.

Don't have any tips but I really wish I did. :-)

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
No. Our little one is 14 months and still wakes about 3-4 times throughout the night.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
She goes to bed between 8-8:30 and if I am home in the morning she wakes around 7:30 but her daddy can get her to stay asleep until at least 8:30, sometimes later.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
She is in a crib in our room which means around 4am she is in bed with us.
4) Are they being breastfed? No.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? she takes a bottle throughout the night which is our problem. She will take it from either her daddy or me so it has been hard to night wean her.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Pampers Baby Dry
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? We tried the huggies overnight but they were pretty worthless. We usually have to change her in the middle of the night. She pees a lot!

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
No, she is 2 mo, 3 wks, she goes down around 8:30pm, wakes up around 1:30 to eat, and 5:30 to eat.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? 7:30 am: Day begins – Get dressed/fed
8:30 am: Back to sleep
12:00 pm: Wake up for lunch & playtime
1:00 pm: Back to sleep
4:30 pm: Wake up to eat & playtime
5:30 pm: Back to sleep
6:30 pm: Wake up to eat a little & playtime
7:30 pm: Dinner & Bathtime
8:30 pm: Bedtime
1:30 am: Wake up to eat
5:30 am: Wake up to eat

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
She co-slept with us until this week. I put her in a by-the-bed bassinet and she sleeps fine. At her last feeding I’ll usually keep her in the bed with me, more because I fall asleep first, lol. Once she starts sleeping thru the night, she’s going into her own room.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes, and formula fed also.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
Yes, because she wakes up hungry.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Huggies Supreme Gentle Care… I tried Pampers but they leaked and she’s too wide for them.. the size 1’s will barely go around her tummy but are too long, if that makes sense. In Huggies she’s comfortably in a size 1 and they work awesomely.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? No

This is so timely...I am wondering the same thing - I have a 3.5 month old boy.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
NO! He did it one time and I think it was because he was getting sick.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
We start our routine at about 7:45 and he's in bed usually by 8:15pm. I then feed him before I go to bed at 10:30 and then he's usually up between 2-3 am and then again around 5am and up for good anywhere between 7-8:30am.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
He slept in a Pack and Play in our room for the first 2 months and has been in his crib in his room since then.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
Yep - although I'm not certain he actually needs to eat, but it's pretty quick - just 10 minutes and we're both back to bed.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Pampers Swaddlers and 7th Gen.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
no.

Feel free to also tell us any tips, or stories about your child's sleep habits.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

Yes. He is 6 months old and has been sleeping through the night since 4 months.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?

9pm - 8am

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?

He recently moved into a crib in his own room from a bassinet in our bedroom. The transition was smooth.

4) Are they being breastfed?

He was 7 weeks premature, so he has pretty much always been bottle fed breast milk, now formula. He also eats rice cereal in the day.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?

We try not to feed him until at least 6am, unless he is screaming bloody murder, which is very rare.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?

Whatever they have at Costco.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?

Nope.

Hope this helps. Kids are so different, we are very lucky to have a pretty mellow guy.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes. She's 20 months. It was a process and, yes, we both cried. I suppose the method we used was some sort of modified ferber thing.... I dunno... we seem to make our own rules. My biggest piece of ass-vice for bed time is this: Make a plan ahead of time. During the day. When you are sane. Talk to your mate and decide what you are going to try for that night. Be it, "We will let her fuss for 10 minutes and then mama will get her and nurse her and snuggle for 15 minutes and then go back to bed." Rinse. Repeat. Whatever....the key is to not make those decisions in the middle of the night when you are all on the brink.... otherwise you will just crawl into her bed and never leave... which is fine... if that's what you PLANNED to do. Does that make ANY sense?

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Bed time is 8:00-ish. My daughter goes to bed first. Her brother (3.5 yrs) goes a bit later. They both wake up around 6:45. Daughter still takes 2 naps and son takes one nap.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? Both were in a co-sleeper as infants. Daughter is still in a crib and is now in her own room. Her brother started crawling out of the crib around 16 months (precocious? spawn of satan? You decide.) and was then trasitioned to a full-sized boxspring/mattress on the floor with rails.

4) Are they being breastfed? Not any more. Daughter weaned slowly down and finished around 17 months.... but she still smiles dreamily, pats them, and says, "bah-bah." She learned that from her father...

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? Nope. But we still use a paci for our daughter. And sometimes a sippy of water. We gave our son a sippy of milk to go to bed sometimes... which can't be smart for his teeth.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Whatever is on the best sale. I like pampers but also use huggies, luvs & store brands. Our daughter is a total camel... she doesn't pee very often and when she does it is a flood... I'm really hoping that will translate into easy potty training. When she was tiny I would always try to use the high-end pampers (swaddlers?) when she would be in the car seat a long time.... they seemed so soft.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? We use store brand pull ups for backup for our 3.5 yr-old son at bed time. We used diaper-doublers for him when he was smaller because he was soaking everything.

Hey! This was kinda fun to think back and see how far we've come....

You're leaving yourself wide open for advice here...

My son is 23 months old.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
- yes, apart from when he's poorly.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
He goes to bed at 8 and gets up at between 7 and 8.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
Crib in his own room - always has been.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Not any more. He weaned himself at about 11 months.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
No a snggle usually does the trick

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Huggies 24 hour ones

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
No.

Tom was breastfed exclusively for the first six months, he woke every 2 1/2 hours in that time to feed. We weaned at 6 months and carried on feeding as well... he continued waking every few hours till he was 8 months - when we did cry it out.

Hope some of that info helps.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Used to, not anymore - he now wakes two to four times a night.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? OFten he goes down at around 7pm, after he has had dinner, and a bath and sometimes a little play. Usually he wakes up to start the day around 7.30 but just recently has been known to wake at 5am and refuse to go back to sleep.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? In a crib, in his own room.
4) Are they being breastfed? no.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? Yep, usually try the dummy first, and if that doesn't cut it I go and warm up a formula bottle - he can feed himself so I usually chuck it in the crib and leave him to his own devices - he often just goes back to sleep after a few sips.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? HUggies.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? Nope.

Good luck!

My son is just 2 and will wake up during the night a few times a week. I let him cry for 3-5 min. then will go in and hold him for a few minutes and he usually goes right back to sleep. I stopped night time feeding at about 10 months. He goes to bed at 7:30 and I have to wake him up at 6:30 for daycare. I don't know if you have a Costco in your area, but Kirkland diapers ROCK. I used them for my daughter from about 12 months until she was done with diapers and have used them exclusively with my son.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? It varies. Usually, if he's in his crib, he'll wake up at least once. If he's with us, he sleeps through the night.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? Bed at 10:30 PM. Up by 7:30 AM.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? Crib. But lately he sleeps with us right between us. He sleeps through the night that way. (Yes, I realize we're creating a bad habit. Oh well!)

4) Are they being breastfed? No.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? No.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Pampers. For now. Moving to G Diapers slowly.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? No.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
No, and she never did. She's always been a terrible sleeper and still is at 3 1/2.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
Between 8-9pm. 9 is too late, 8 is what i prefer, 8:30 is acceptable. She wakes up every morning btwn 7-7:30am, no matter what time she went to sleep.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
Now she is in a "big girl bed" (toddler) in her own room, which i re-did. Before, she had a toddler bed and slept in it only a few times. When she was a baby, though, she ALWAYS slept in her crib, but that's only because I was scared to "crush" her and because I would sit and read or watch TV just holding her until I went to bed. She woke up frequently.
4) Are they being breastfed?
No, I couldn't breast feed due to medication I'm on.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
When she was a baby? I'm not sure. Sometimes? i forget.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
I used huggies or pampers, whatever the best deal was at the time.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
No. Except when she was being potty trained, even after she wore underwear during the day, i put a pull-up on at night until I was sure she woudln't have accidents.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Cloth diapers - BumGenius and FuzziBunz
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
BumGenius with two inserts

Hi Torrie,

Here you go...

Maximilien is 12 months old.

1) Yes, he sleeps through the night. It was hard around 10 months and we did a lot of crying and letting him scream it out. But he figured it out after a while. Now I put him down awake and he puts himself to sleep sucking his thumb and cuddling his blanket.

2) Max is in bed by 7pm at the latest, usually 6:30pm if it's me putting him to bed. He wakes up without fail at 7am. Even if he goes to bed late, like if we're out to dinner. Then he naps again around 9am for about 45 minutes. Lunch at noon-ish. Nap again around 1pm until about 3:30pm. Then snack. Play until dinner around 6pm and bed again at 7pm.

3) He sleeps in a crib, in his own room.

4) Max still breast feeds in the morning when he wakes up and before bed.

5)Usually if Max wakes up he sucks his thumb and falls asleep unless he's pooped and then we change him and my husband puts him to bed to avoid him getting used to waking up to breast feed in the middle of the night.

6) We use cloth diapers called Bum Genius 3.0s.

7)We just add another insert to the BGs 3.0s and Max makes it through the night unless he poops and then we have to change him because he's a screaming banshee if we don't.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
He does... now. Over xmas when he was 10 months old he had gotten so bad he was waking us 7 times a night. No sooner had we got off to sleep he was awake again. It was pure torture. So we finally gave in to controlled crying, even though it felt completely wrong, we were so thoroughly exhausted that trying to look after him with no sleep felt equally wrong. It took about 4 nights but now he sleeps for about 10 hours. I'm still not really happy that we did it, but I'm glad we did at the same time. I guess that means I'm ambivalent, but I love my sleep.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
He goes to bed somewhere between 7.30 pm (uncommonly) and 9 pm. He wakes any time from 5 am to -if we're *really* lucky 6.30am. The other day he woke at 4 am. Not nice.
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
He sleeps in his own cot (which I assume means 'crib' in american). He is in his own room, but there is a door into that room from our room as well as the hallway.
4) Are they being breastfed?
(Smiles proudly) Yes. At 13 months and still loving it.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
We used to before we did controlled crying. We had to: it was the only way he'd ever known to go back to sleep. On the rare occasions (and I really mean they are very rare now) he wakes up and cries we just go in and comfort him and then leave him to go back to sleep. Which he now does.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
EcoBots (babyloveecobots.com.au/) and Nature babycare (naty.com). Rarely a traditional cloth nappy (diaper) if it is eg close to bathtime and it's only there to stop him crapping on the floor.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
No. Just make sure he has a fresh one on before we put him down. Now he doesn't feed overnight he doesn't wee as much- the biggest I ever saw his overnight nappy was 450g- one teaspoon short of a whole pound.

Stories- well, to be brief I share your pain with a baby that won't have daytime naps: though he is ratty with tiredness and just about asleep on his feet, he just won't do it anymore. Most days he will have maybe half an hour at about noon, but then won't sleep again until 8pm. Tiring.

Good luck.

Hi Torrie. You don't know me, but I used to work with your husband. Our babbies are about I think a few weeks apart. My son was born on May 9th. He has slept thru the night since he was a month old. I put him down around 7 and wake him up about 530a.

He wears size 3 pampers cruisers...LOVE them. We are almost in a 4. He weighs 25lbs. Not fat, solid.

He doesn't eat baby food anymore. He eats whatever I cook. He had 4 teeth. 2 on top and 2 on bottom, but chews as if he has a mouth full.

Drinks regular milk from a sippie cup. However, he loves drinking from a regular cup, but that gets VERY messy.

He is trying to walk. Has taken a couple of steps, but of course falls. But give him something to hold to, and the boy is gone. hehe.

I hope this helps some.

) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes, and has since approximately age 3-4 months. He is almost 11 months old.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? He goes to bed around 7:15 p.m. and wakes up around 7:00 a.m.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? He sleeps in a crib in his room. Until 2-3 months, we co-slept. Between 2-3 months and 6 months, he slept in a bassinet/cosleeper in our bedroom.

4) Are they being breastfed? He never could latch on reliably and so I pumped until he was about 5 1/2 months and he had bottles of exclusively pumped BM until 3 months and between 3 months and 5 1/2 months, part BM and part formula.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? No.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Cloth diapers.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? Yes, he uses a double-stuffed bumGenius cloth diaper at night.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? At 12, 10, 7 and 1, God I hope so! The baby has only for a few weeks, as I finally stopped going in there to nurse. The others were by 6 months, one as early as 6 weeks.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up? The older 3, by 8:30ish, sometimes 9, and get up around the same time the next morning...they are homeschooled, so can do that. The baby, around 8ish, and then wakes around 6 am to nurse, then back to bed till about 8:30.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room? The older 2 have their own rooms, the 7 year old and baby share a room, where the baby is still in a crib. He was in a bassinet with us till about 6 months. That's how they pretty much all did it, and at times, the older 3 have all been in one room.

4) Are they being breastfed? The baby is still being nursed, at a year. Like maybe 5 times in 24 hours. The others were all breastfed until around 18 months, each weaned themselves between 14 mo. and 18 mo.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep? After 6 months with the first 3, nope. With the baby? I just stopped nursing him back to sleep...Baby Syndrome.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use? Disposable

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper? We use cheaper Target or grocery store brand during the day, and Huggies Overnights for night.

The Twinkle was born in May 2007 so she's about the same age as Willa.
1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night? Yes, ever since we did sleep training with a sleep-specialist nurse when she was six months.
2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
6.30pm to 6am
3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
A cot in her own room.
4) Are they being breastfed?
Not since she was 7 months and I went back to work.
5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
Just replace her pacifier and tuck her in again and she usually nods off straight away.
6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Huggies.
7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
No, just the same.

The sleep nurse was a god send and although the first week or 10 days of the new routine was heartbreakingly hard, it has been worth it for the baby and for us ever since.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?
She wakes up once during the night. She's 5 months old now and for the first 3 months she would only sleep if we held her, once we put her in the crib she'll wake up screaming. So once during the night has been good.

2) What time do they go to bed? What time do they wake up?
8pm latest, wakes up 6-7am

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
In a crib in her room

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
I nurse her and she'll fall back to sleep

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Pampers

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
We started using bumGenius for overnight because we found her swimming in poop every morning, yuk

When she wouldn't sleep at night we started an evening routine to try and get her to sleep at night. It has been helpful and as I said she only wakes up once now. The routine mainly involves dinner, bath, quiet time/reading, nursing, cuddling and finally sleeping. So far it has been working for us.

I have to reply here because I don't really know how to use twitter, but I used to have a kitten that liked to lick tape. He liked it so much that if I started to pull it off a little and left it, he would take the rest off himself. So... the kitten part might work ;)

I'm just seeing this for the first time hence my late reply!

First, you should know that my baby is 5 months old. I think age matters a lot.

1. Claire CAN sleep through the night, but doesn't do it consistently. For example, on Monday she slept 10 hours straight. Last night she was up several times. I have no idea why it varies so much.

2. She goes to bed at 7:00p.m. and if she wakes in the night it's around 2:30. If she doesn't wake up in the middle of the night, then she's up at either 5:00 or 7:00a.m. Again, it's still so variable!

3. She sleeps in a crib in her own room and has since she was 10 weeks old.

4. She is exclusively breastfed.

5. If she wakes up in the middle of the night I have been feeding her, but we don't do that as of 1-2 weeks ago, as we're trying to get her used to going back to sleep on her own. So, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, Huz goes and puts the pacifier in her mouth and she falls back asleep until a more reasonable hour (5 or 7a.m.).

6. I use cloth diapers through a local diaper service.

7. I haven't had to use a doubler yet overnight, but probably will have to when she's older.

1) Does your baby/child sleep through the night?

What time do they wake up? Between 5:30 and 6:30 am.

3) Do they sleep in a crib or toddler bed? Is it in their own room?
She's still in a crib, in her own room.

4) Are they being breastfed?
Yes, one feeding before her nap.

5) If they wake up in the middle of the night do you need to breastfeed or bottle feed them to get them to go back to sleep?
No.

6) What type/brand of diapers do you use?
Pampers Cruisers.

7) Do you use a different/special overnight diaper?
No.

Ekstra info: My little boy is currently 7 months. He started to sleep through the night when he was 2,5 moths old.

My son never wanted to sleep--he was afraid he might miss something. He stopped taking naps at 10 months old (even in the car). My survival strategy: His bedtime was written in stone. 8 o'clock every night. I would stay in our room next door and if the crying went on over 3 minutes or so, I would go in and tell him he didn't have to go to sleep if he wasn't tired (kind of like bartenders at closing time: "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.") He had some books and non-fluffy toys in his crib. We'd make tents out of the books and have the toys live in them, and make up stories about them. Then I'd leave. All very low-key, no big rush, no big deal. Pretty soon, he would do all that without me, making up alternate worlds and realities. I would hear him talking to himself/his toys for up to 2 hours, or sometimes he'd fall asleep in ten minutes. Sticking to that bedtime and the rule that once he was in bed, he stayed there, was the only way I stayed marginally sane. Told me once, when I went in to check on him: "Mom, this is MY alone-time." He still doesn't like to miss anything--but he loves to sleep, and his imagination is bizarre and wonderful. I think, in retrospect, it was a good thing for him NOT to know how much I wanted(NEEDED) him to sleep, because kids like to see if they can control you. Especially smart kids. Not in a manipulative, Simon-bar-Sinister way, but because they are exploring the boundaries of their will. Hope this helps!
