Reminiscing

I was driving the other day and I heard Bob Seger's We've Got Tonight on the radio. It reminded me of that episode of the Wonder Years where Winnie is being mean to Kevin ,and hanging out with the older kids, and then she gets in to a bad car accident.

Warning- if you watch this clip you might burst in to tears- I did.

It got me thinking about all of the amazing moments from the TV shows I used to watch.

Some are funny, like this scene from friends:

Some are sad scenes, like the episode of Little House on the Prairie when Mary goes blind and she's screaming "Pa? I can't see you Pa!" (I can't find a clip of that one.)

Whether or not I like to admit it, television has been a huge part of my life.

Different shows remind me of different parts of my life.

I get all nostalgic and teary when I think about it.

What are some of you favorite scenes/episodes from TV shows past?

Comments

You KNEW the game show is my favorite clip EVER.

My favorite TV scene ever is towards the end of the second season finale of Veronica Mars when Logan shows up to rescue Veronica from the psychopath, and he tells her, "you're not a killer, Veronica" and they embrace. That one gets me every time.

My dad and I used to watch Taxi every week (it was on whatever night he had visitation with me (divorced parents and all) - and I still love to watch that show. One of the best scenes from that show is where Reverend Jim has to take a driver's test - I found a clip of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvn-tBeLpCk (funny stuff.)

TV shows remind me of where I was in life for sure. I remember the diet pill Saved By the Bell, 90210 when Dylan's wife died...what was her name? I just spent 4 minutes of my life thinking about her name when I have google...ahhh allergies - I totally remember sobbing when she died and that kitten curled up in her wedding dress with my college roommates all on speaker phone because the episode aired over some break. The Ally McBeal when whats his name died...Billy maybe. The Wings when Brian and Casey burn down Helen and Joe's house.

Most all from Seinfeld....

"Oh, it's a scene, man"

"Poppie peed on my sofa"

"Life a full dry body heave set to music"

The Contest.........the whole thing.

1. When Dr. Mark Greene died in ER. It was the first episode I watched and I haven't missed one since.

2. When Monica and Chandler get engaged on Friends. Reminds me that there is love in the world! It still makes me cry in reruns.

I think that's it...but I am going to think of many more, I'm sure!!

This post immediately made me think about this episode of Growing Pains: http://video.aol.com/video/second-chance/1767172 where Carol's boyfriend gets in a car accident. I could only find the entire episode, but I watched it again and cried. It originally aired when I was 14 and made a huge impact on me, but the perspective I've gained in the last eighteen years and now being a mother makes it even more heartbreaking. Again, it's the entire episode but totally worth watching.

1. Bobby Simone dies on NYPD Blue. Connie kisses Andy on NYPD Blue.

2. Nearly every episode of Seinfeld.

I have 2 scenes....
1) The scene in Ed where he acts out the list of Carol's fave things before he proposes to her:

2) The last 10 minutes of the last episode of "My So Called Life."

oh man, Friends and ER remind me of college- we had Thursday night 'TV Night' in our room, all our friends would pack in (our rooms were TINY!!) and we'd watch the whole NBC lineup.

The last scene of MASH, when the helicopter lifts off. Also one of the most thought/emotion provoking theme songs ever.

That Friends clip is my absolute favorite scene in the whole 10 years of that awesome show!

I love all friends. I guess if i have to pick a favorite i'll pick the one with Ross dating this messy girl (Rebecca Romjin) I love it!

ask me any little house question, and i can answer:

"pa! i can't see!"

I know you write a lot of amazing posts but this is my favorite. I LOVED the wonder years and the friends clip and Oh man I was still in grade school when that episode of Growing Pains aired but I remember the whole thing. I also remember watching Cheers! with my Dad while he went through chemo and realizing years later that he never knew how it ended (because he had passed only a few short months before the final season) and then thinking how much he would have enjoyed Frasier. I hope people keep adding their favorite clips!

Any Australians reading this will know what I mean when I say that Molly's death on A Country Practice is by far the most memorable for me. http://acountrypractice.com/Char/mjones.html
Unfortunately the scene doesn't seem to be on You Tube.

For belly laughs, it would have to be the 'Batman and Robin' scene from Only Fools and Horses. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, OFAH is a British sitcom, and it's fantastic.

Especially this clip.

Enjoy!

the episode of family ties when alex's friend dies in a car crash. the name of the episode is "my name is alex."

I remember all of those. Also the same Family Ties episode that rew said above. That one was so sad.

And the episode of 90210 where kelly talks about being raped. Oh I cried for hours after that one.

I love TV, I have tons of favorite memories from all kinds of shows. Nice post!

The last episode of "Six Feet Under" destroys me every time. Loved the skinny-jeans, pot-smoking episode of SATC. The Mary Tyler Moore ep where EVERYTHING goes wrong for her before the Teddie awards; Facts of Life when the drive-in closes down; The Friends "but they don't know we know they know we know they know!" ep!

I have three:
1) MASH, when Radar comes into the OR to tell the doctors that Blake's plane was shot down and there were no survivors. Oh. My. GOD!
2) Boy Meets World, when Topanga is going to go live with her aunt and uncle and you think that she and Cory are going to break up ... that was probably the first time I flat out CRIED over a TV show.
3) When Billy died on Ally McBeal. I mean, he just flat out dropped dead in court! No warning! Sooooo messed with my high school emotions.

Great post! Thanks for inspiring a trip down celluloid memory lane. :)

Hi- I feel bad for Dexter! Curious what a 'hot spot' is though? I have 3 black labs, ALWAYS at the vet for something or other, but have never dealt with something like this. This could be helpful for me to know- thank you for any insight!

I just quoted a scene from Friends yesterday ...lol. I miss it.
