A few questions

Indulge me please.

1) At what age did you give your child a pillow?
2) At what age did your child stop sleeping in a crib?
3) At what age did your child stop using sippy cups?
4) At what age did your child stop using bibs?

Comments

I gave Leilana her pillow when I moved her out of her crib and into her "big girl bed" when she was about 18 months old. To this day, her head rests still on the mattress, and not the pillow.

In general, she stopped with sippy cups at 2.5 years - though they still made appearances on long road trips to avoid spillage in the cars.

The same age for the bib - though it still comes out with sloppy meals and chocolate ice cream - and she's four.

Good luck :)

When he went to a big bed, he got a pillow.

We did crib as a day bed at 18 mths and he moved into a twin bed in May after he turned two in March. (My parents say I slept in a big bed when I was one. That seems a little crazy.)

Hudson is 3 and still uses a sippy cup or a covered cup with a straw in the car and at most meals. He can drink out of a big kid glass but really doesn't care.

About 2 years old. Unless it was something really messy. Since all he eats now are chicken nuggets, there's not a whole lot to catch with a bib.

1. Around two? But he slept in our bed so much that he was using pillows (ours) from much earlier.
2. We had a crib as a sidecar to our bed from about a year until about two, when we moved it away from our bed with the side still off, which effectively made it a bed. He is 100% in a toddler bed now and has been since about 2.5.
3. He never used sippy cups. He refused, and when, at nine months, he picked up a full glass of water, drank from it, and replaced it on the table without spilling, we never tried to get him to use anything else.
4. Pretty young, I think under a year. Though we did have one of those smock-style bibs when he was one or so, and he used that sometimes until about two.

Sammi got her pillow at about 14 months, one night she was just so crabby that it was the only thing I could think of, I gave her my pillow and she has had it ever since.

I would have kept her in the crib forever. LOL but she broke the railing at 20 months so we converted it into the toddler bed, when we figure out what I want to do with her room we will get her a twin size bed.

I never gave her the sippy cups with a spout we went straight to sippy cups with straws. I was weird.

She never liked bibs, so my rule is never buy a piece of clothing more then 5 bucks, I have to be able to throw it away or use it for rags if I can't get the stains out. Shout out is my new best friend =)

Hope it helps!
Felicia

1) We started with a pillow around her 2nd birthday in the spring- she showed an interest in our couch pillows (she actually stole them at bedtime and took them to her crib!) So my sister got her an Ariel pillow for her birthday, and she LOVES it.

2) Maggie's still in her crib. So far, she hasn't realized she could TOTALLY climb out of it, and until that day, I don't think I'll switch her out. Containment is our friend! ha

3) Still using a sippy cup. She can sometimes drink SMALL amounts of water from a real cup, and she's good at that- but she doesn't understand (or care) that she can't just tip it over or set it on the couch without it spilling.

4) We still put a bib on her occasionally if it's something messy- yogurt or mac n cheese or something. But I think it was around her 2nd birthday again that we were able to stop doing bibs for everything. I didn't really think about it too much, I just realized one day that I forgot and she was still (relatively!) clean.

Oh, honey. I so wish I could answer those questions but I'd have to look them all up and I'm on my lunch break, so I'll go on what I DO remember or what I think sounds reasonable and logical now having been past that stage...

I would say that no bibs are fine if you think your daughter eats neat enough to keep the outfit on and be "presentable" for whatever activities you have planned without having to change. Or, if you're just sick of doing laundry.

I would say a pillow is fine now as she is no longer in danger of suffocating herself, as she can roll over, pull up/stand up/walk, etc.

Hmmm...Crib to toddler bed was I don't know, 2? She hated the toddler bed though and loved her big girl bed. If I were you, i would delay it as soon as possible as usually there is a significant lack of sleep (for you, mainly) that corresponds with that transition.

Sippy cups no idea but I think it was after some doc appointment when they asked if she could drink from an open cup and I was all, "how the hell should i know?? Why would I try THAT foolish experiment and risk a good soaking of my hard wood floors in sticky apple juice?" So then I tried it at the table first and she didn't like it and then she did. So helpful, I know.

good luck!

1. She started using a small ladybug pillow around age 2, real pillows around age 3.

2. We moved her to a toddler bed after her 3rd birthday, but after a week or two she asked to go back to her crib. So we went back to the crib for another six months or so, then moved her back to a toddler bed.

3. We'd moved to mostly straw cups or regular cups by the time she was 4, though we still have a couple of sippy cups that get used occasionally when we really want to control spills (like in the car).

4. I had pretty much stopped putting bibs on her by the time she was 20 months. If we were going to eat something messy at home (like spaghetti) I'd just take her clothes off. Otherwise, no bibs. But our child is a fairly neat eater.

1) At what age did you give your child a pillow?

When he could stand up and walk. I suggest a child be mobile enough to get themselves untrapped from a pillow on their face.

2) At what age did your child stop sleeping in a crib?

When he was old enough to climb out of the crib..it was gone because then it's unsafe.

3) At what age did your child stop using sippy cups?

When he could hold a cup without spilling. About age 3.

4) At what age did your child stop using bibs?

When he stopped making a mess.

These are all common sense,...follow your gut.

1) He was two. We gave him one because he threw a royal fit because he was the only one that didn't have one.
2) Again, two. He had a sister on the way & went from crib to twin bed.
3) Can you guess? Two. We still used them at grandmas (white carpet! eek!) but at our house, at the table, we do small cups with small amounts of liquid.
4) Somewhere between 2 and 3. Pretty much when he realized we weren't wearing them. Messy foods = shirtless kids, now.

1) My son, who is one month younger than Willa, had bad reflux and has co-slept with us for most of his life, so he had a pillow of his own starting at about 9 months or so.

2) He never slept in a crib except when he was hospitalized and had to do so. (Which was a lot and probably explains why he would not get in one at home.)

3) He still uses a sippy cup except at meals. At meals he has a small open cup just right for his hands. Non-meal drinks are usually a cup with a straw. Especially for smoothies, which we have almost every day.

4) At around a year. Now when I know something will be messy I take his clothes off of him.

1. About 18 months
2. About 18 months
3. Still uses them...he's almost 3, but drinks ALL DAY LONG (there's a few poo problems, so we have to keep the liquid coming) so I prefer to keep the juice in a contained cup.
4. Still use them...makes for less laundry. My kid likes to have his hands and mouth clean while he eats, but I just cant break him of the wipe your hands on your shirt habit, so bibs it is!

1. When they moved into a twin bed,
2. About 2 and a half years old,
3. About 3 or 3 and a half,
4. About 3.

Good luck!

Tori's had a pillow for a little over a year (she's just three).

She's still in the crib. She has no interest in potty training, she doesn't try to climb out, she still fits fine, and she can't come bother us that way. :)

She's still using a sippy cup, and since she knocks stuff over a lot, I suspect she will for a while yet. We also use straw cups, though, and she likes those.

She stopped using a bib when she was able to take them off, so like two years ago. :)

We're a little behind you guys in terms of age, but here are my two cents:
1. Owen's a belly sleeper, so we won't be giving him a pillow for a long time -- my mom (the physio) preaches about what a difference the kind of pillow you use affects your neck, back, etc. I should know -- at 6 months pregnant, I'm not allowed to use my regular comfy "medium" (for back sleepers) pillow. It's kinda like the juice thing -- he doesn't know the difference if it's watered down, he won't know how awesome it is using a pillow!
2. We switched to the toddler bed with the little wee rail a few months ago, knowing we'd get him a twin bed in the next little while. He wasn't trying to escape the crib, we just wanted to see if he could sleep in a real bed without falling out. So far, so ...medium. Three bumps in the night (onto ridiculous pile of pillows on the floor). Back into bed, back to sleep no problem.
3. Never. He's a thrower. He'll be taking those frigging things to school. :)
4. Not anytime soon. He knows full well how to use a fork and spoon, but would rather use his hands. No rush!
Thanks, again, for another good set of questions! I look forward to reading more answers!

I have a son, that is 22 months.

So the only thing I can answer is the pillow question. He has been using a small very flat pillow since he was 6 weeks old, due to the fact that he slept on only one side, and the lead to a flat head. They acctually rekomend small flat pillows to newborns, at some hospitals here (Norway) to avoid flat heads.

1) At what age did you give your child a pillow? 3
2) At what age did your child stop sleeping in a crib? 3
3) At what age did your child stop using sippy cups? never... still take them in the car on long trips.
4) At what age did your child stop using bibs? 3

1. They were both two when they got pillows. They were homemade quilted square pillows too. (Flatter & smaller than regular pillows.)

2. My son never slept in a crib. He moved from our bed to his own bed when he was 21 months. My daughter moved from her crib to a bed when she turned 2yrs.

3. My son stopped using sippy cups around age 3. My daughter still has one (she is 2½ right now).

4. I never used bibs - not once. I'm not sure why, it just never occurred to me, I guess.

1) Pillow -- Probably when the kids got to toddler bed.

2) Out of crib -- When they learned to climb out. We didn't want them falling to the floor from the top of the crib rail. I'm thinking that was age 2 or so.

3) Sippy cups -- With our older one, it was around age 3 or so because we heard that sippy cups can impede speech. With our younger one, we got him using straws at a much younger age (though I can't remember what). He is still a late talker at almost 5.

4) Stop using bibs -- Don't remember. Sometimes we still put a t-shirt over our younger one (particularly at hotel breakfasts) because he is prone to making quite a mess. Our worst incident was at a Canadian breakfast chain called Chez Cora. It's a creperie. I had a chocolate-hazelnut-banana crepe, and of course the younger one wanted it. Luckily he did have a t-shirt over his clothes. The t-shirt went from white to brown.

Hope all that helps, and good luck!

1) When Lena was past the SIDS age and started wanting pillows. Indeed, her collection of pillows and stuffed animals has steadily grown.

2) When Abby got preggers with #2, we decided we needed the crib. Lena was 30 months old and she had never climbed out of the crib.

3) The sippy cups were largely gone around 2, since they discourage them at school. Every once in a while, for whatever reason, she still wants one and we oblige.

4) Bibs... well, we never really needed them with Lena after she started feeding herself. Part of her aversion to gooey things and mess means that she won't get any food on her face or clothes. While this is a pain in the ass for food choice, it is a blessing for cleanup after meals.

Every kid is different... you'll make the right decisions :)

1 - Brook had a baby pillow around 10 months and then a big pillow at about 18 months

2 - People will think I am crazy, but she stayed in her crib till she was almost four. She never climbed out and I knew she was always safe, so she didn't move out of it until her baby brother came. She totally out grew it before she got out of it, but hey it didn't hurt any growth or development and it was great for me!

3 - The sippy cup was at about 2 1/2, when it was "cool" for her and her friends to have "big girl" cups

4 - The bib was gone once she didn't dribble everything down her shirt. I really can't remember, maybe at about a year and a half?

I think all of this is different for every family and there is absolutely no right or wrong answer.
